Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this rice ideal for onigiri?
It is polished to stay tender even after cooling, allowing each grain’s texture to shine. Carefully grown by experienced farmers and refined by Sumidaya’s certified Rice Meister, it delivers the freshness and quality needed for perfectly shaped, flavorful onigiri.
How should I wash this rice?
Handle gently, as modern rice grains are softer and can break if scrubbed. Begin by quickly rinsing: add water, stir lightly 1–3 times, and drain immediately, since rice starts absorbing water right away. Then wash in plenty of fresh water: stir about 10 times in a circular motion, drain, and repeat 3 times. The water will remain slightly cloudy, which is normal as it carries the starch that gives rice its natural sweetness.
Does it contain any additives?
No. This is 100% Japanese rice, polished and vacuum-packed with no additives.
How should I store it?
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
